Shoresh nursery

A beautiful Jewish Independent Day Nursery, inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and Montessori pedagogy.

A child-centred approach to education

We are delighted to be home to a modern Jewish Nursery, with an Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum inspired by the pre-schools of Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy and the philosophy of the Montessori method.

Our beautiful Nursery environment has been carefully developed to inspire and motivate our children to be curious and independent learners. Our unique curriculum follows a child-centred approach which enables the development of the whole child as well as following their individual interests and encouraging them to become independent thinkers.

Every Friday we celebrate Kabbalat Shabbat as well as embracing other Jewish traditions and celebrating all Jewish festivals.

A small nursery with big ideas

Our nursery accommodates up to 26 children, aged from 3 to 5 years old. We are a term-time nursery with flexible wrap-around holiday care that is offered all year round. We offer full and part-time sessions as well as a shorter day option and breakfast club.

Our beautiful purpose-built nursery is situated in the heart of Hove within BNJC’s community hub. We have plenty of space for play and a  private garden, which is integral to our outdoor learning programme.

Our on-site chef also provides kosher, nutritional and well-balanced meals using fresh ingredients and locally sourced produce where possible.

A beautiful space for your child to  learn & grow

Our passionate teachers have created a warm and caring, safe and stimulating nursery environment, and tailor all activities according to the child’s individual needs. Our nursery approach has been carefully developed to allow each child to learn independently. This is achieved through a balance of carefully and thoughtfully planned adult-led activities alongside independent exploration.

Play-based learning sits at the heart of our approach, and we place value on the importance of outdoor learning. We provide ample opportunities for our children to experience a range of outdoor activities and connect with nature.

A nurturing environment, embracing Jewish traditions

We strongly believe that every child is unique, with their own extraordinary gifts and talents. We regard it as our highest privilege to find and nurture the growth of each and every child.

Working closely and in partnership with our families is important to us. In our nursery there are plenty of opportunities to be involved in your child’s learning as well as becoming a part of the wider BNJC community.

We embrace Jewish traditions and celebrate all Jewish festivals whilst ensuring our children are familiar with a diverse range of faiths, traditions & cultures. Fridays are particularly special, when we celebrate Kabbalat Shabbat together. Interwoven through our curriculum is a holistic approach to the introduction of Hebrew reading and writing.
